Information of Electronics
Today our topic is Computer.In
this blog I try to introduce computer feauters their uses it’s generations and
it’s components.
Computer;
A computer is a device that can
be instructed to carry out sequences of arithmetic or logical operations
automatically via computer programming.
Computer Generations;
There are five generations of computer as following,
First Generation of computer;
The
first generation lasted from 1940 to 1956. First generation computers operated
on vacuum tubes, which served as the circuitry. The magnetic drums served as
the memory. These computers were absolutely enormous; entire rooms were
occupied by bulky machinery.
Vacuum
tubes:
2nd Generation of computer;
A second
generation of computers, through the late 1950s and 1960s featured circuit
boards filled with individual transistors and magnetic core memory.
Transistors:
Third
generation of computer;
The computers of third generation used Integrated
Circuits (ICs) in place of transistors. A single IC has many transistors,
resistors, and capacitors along with the associated circuitry. The IC was
invented by Jack Kilby. This development made computers smaller in size,
reliable, and efficient.
Integrated circuits:
Fourth
generation computers;
The
period of fourth generation was from 1971-1980. Computers of fourth generation
used Very Large Scale Integrated (VLSI) circuits. VLSI circuits having about
5000 transistors and other circuit elements with their associated circuits on a
single chip made it possible to have microcomputers of fourth generation.
Very
Large Scale Integrated (VLSI) circuits:
Fifth
Generation of computer;
The Fifth Generation
Computer Systems [Present and Future] (FGCS) was an initiative by Japan's
Ministry of International Trade and Industry, begun in 1982, to create a
computer using massively parallel computing/processing. ... These Fifth
Generation computers will be built around the concepts of logic programming.
